Biosecurity measures at Agritech

Agritech Expo Zambia 2018 --- Immediate Release

UPDATE: Ministry of Fisheries & Livestock Approval to Host the Agritech Expo Zambia

Agritech Expo Zambia, opens on Thursday 12 April, in Chisamba, north of Lusaka. The award-winning exhibition welcomes more than 250 exhibitors from Zambia and across the world, displaying machinery, equipment, agro-seeds, agro-chemicals, solutions and services for the Zambian and regional agriculture sector. Bringing annually 22,000 farming professionals to the field, in its 5th year the exhibition is widely recognised as the leading field days exhibition in sub-Saharan Africa.

In recent days we have been made aware by the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock of a limited outbreak of Foot & Mouth disease in the districts of Chisamba and Chibombo. The Ministry has been quick to respond to the outbreak and has quarantined four farms in the region. The outbreak is contained. The Ministry has banned the movement of all livestock in the districts and applied bio-security measures to control the environment.

Agritech Expo Zambia will not be displaying any livestock on-site, there has been no livestock onsite for 12 months, and has taken the immediate steps to apply the precautionary bio-security measures advised by the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock to the entrance and exit points of the exhibition grounds. To ensure a controlled environment, a roll-through vehicle wash-down process for all vehicles has been installed, along with foot path shoots for footwear at all entry and exit points.

The Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock has approved the opening of the Agritech Expo Zambia, along with the owners, the Zambia National Farmers’ Union (ZNFU). The Head of State, President Edgar Lungu, will officially open the Agritech Expo at 11:00 on Friday 13th April at the ZNFU hospitality marquee.
